Tyland Baptist
Church is a Southern Baptist Church, associated with the Southern
Baptists of Texas Convention. We subscribe to the doctrinal statement
of "The Baptist Faith and Message" as adopted by the Southern
Baptist Convention in 1963. (For our Church
Doctrinal Statement, click here.)
Our motto at Tyland Baptist Church is
"You are Loved!" Visit us once and you'll see that
we mean just that!
Attendance and
Worship Style
The average attendance of our Sunday morning worship is approximately
120 people. The format of our worship is what might be termed as
"traditional," meaning we use a piano, organ, and sing
from The Baptist Hymnal. We offer age-graded Sunday school,
with co-ed, men's, women's, and college/career classes available.
We also have Sunday school for children from toddlers to high school
age. On Wednesday nights, RA and GA programs are available for elementary
school children.
Bible
The preaching passage
on Sunday mornings is nearly exclusively from the New Testament,
and Sunday evening preaching comes from the Old Testament. Wednesday
night service is devoted to prayer and study of the Psalms. In this
way, we believe we are declaring "the whole counsel of God"
(Acts 20:27). Brother David preaches from the New King James version,
the same translation that can be found in the pews.
Facilities
Our facilities are brand new -- and by that we mean that the first
service was held on June 26, 2011. Our previous building was destroyed
by an arsonist in 2010. Our new building has the feel of a comfortable
warm church, with all the modern technology of the 21st century.
We love our new space and feel extremely blessed to occupy it. We
think you'll feel the same. (See our "Before
and After" page to get the whole picture!)
Ministries
Tyland Baptist also has a vibrant women's ministry, WMU, men's ministry,
college-age ministry, children's ministry, and Missions Team. We
are very concerned about world, state, and local missions. We support
the IMB and the NAMB through the Southern Baptist Convention, and
spend much time in prayer, study, and missions awareness.
Staff
The Reverend D.E. Mahfood
serves as pastor of Tyland Baptist. Brother Mahfood holds a Master
of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary,
and has preached from various pulpits for seven years. He is a "serial
expositor" who takes the Word of God seriously, and presents
it in a way that is easily understandable without compromising the
intent of the biblical authors.
Nancy
Wiggins is the Church Secretary/Ministry Assistant. Nancy has
served the church for many years, and a nicer person you will not
easily find. She performs a variety of functions at Tyland, and
is the first person you will probably speak to when you call.
Lee
Richards is our Song Leader and is responsible for our choir,
special music, and special singing fellowships. Most recently, Lee
also served as chairman of the Rebuild Committee, with which he
did an inspired job! Lee is also an accomplished guitar player,
often performing the special music during worship.
